Edgar Sherman Brooks, son of John and Elizabeth Brooks, pioneer residents of Wright county was born Febr 3, 1872, in Grant township and passed away at his home in Cornelia, Jan. 23, 1951, at the age of 78 years, l1 months and 20 days. He received His schooling in the Wright county schools. Except for a few years spent in operating a butcher shop at Rowan, he farmed continuously in Grant township. He was united in marriage to Lillian Moon of Rowan in 1898, who preceded him in death in 1911. Oct. 11, 1913, he was united in marriage to Hazel Whipple. To this union were born 11 children, namely: Maxine (Mrs. Earl Benson), Betty (Mrs. Marion Robinson), Joan (Mrs. Dean Schroeder), Robert and William, all of Clarion; Charlene (Mrs. Aubrey Moore) of Chapin; John of Eagle Grove, and James of the U. S. navy, stationed at Lakehurst, N. J.; Patricia, Roger and Alan at home. He is survived by his wife, his children, 11 grandchildren and one brother, Fred of Yakima, Wash., and one sister, Mrs. Estella Hepford of Waterloo.

Funeral services for Mr. Brooks were held at the Eyler funeral home in Clarion Thursday afternoon, and were conducted by Paul L Stacy, minister. Mrs Clair McOllough sang two sacred numbers accompanied by Miss Juanita Richardson. His six sons acted as pallbearers. Interment was in the Rowan cemetery.
