Last Rites Held For Roy C.Hyde

Funeral services for Roy C. Hyde, prominent Rowan businessman, were held In the Rowan Congregational church last Friday afternoon. Rev. Harold Sanders, assisted by Rev. Flint of Dows, had charge of the services. Mrs. Howard Box played several selections on the organ and Howard Box sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Save Thine Own Way." Mrs. Chas. Keith and Mrs. F. Aldinger were in charge of the flowers. Floyd Allen and Rex Steffens served as ushers. Honorary pallbearers were J. A. Whitten, Lee Aldrich Jr., Herbert Pesch, Dale Farran, Tice Streveler and Robert Farran. Active pallbearers were James Stroup of Holmes, Don Mathiason, D. K. Stout, George Pritchett, Worthie Usher and Fred Williams.

Roy C. Hyde, son of Samuel and Laura Hyde, was born May 22, 1891, at Coggan. He was one of 11 children. In his early childhood the family moved to Ackley and resided there until the family moved to Storta Lake. At the age of 16 he took up residence in Waterloo and became employed by the Associated Manufacturers. On Sept. 17, 1913, he was united in marriage to Nellie Emerson at Rowan. Mr. and Mrs. Hyde were the parents of two children, Mae, and Ivan who died in infancy. After their marriage the Hydes resided in Waterloo for three years until they were forced to return to Rowan because of his ill health. Mr. and Mrs. Hyde assumed the responsibility of the Rowan postoffice on Aug 17, 1920. Mr. Hyde had just retired from his duties at the postoffice on Aug. 1, 1953. Mr. Hyde was a member of the Rowan Congregational church and was just completing another term as trustee of the church.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie of Rowan; his children, Mr. and Mrs Robert Crafton of Dows; three grandchildren, Roy Robert, Cherryl and Meri Kay Crafton of Dows; three brothers, Bert, Dillman and Donald all of Ft. Dodge; one sister, Mrs. Art Anderson of Nemaha; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Stella Boyington of Frankfort, Ind.; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Chas. Emerson of Clubb, Mo., and Carl Emerson of Iowa Falls; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Few who knew him were aware of his ill health of the past few years and all were shocked by his sudden death in the Mercy hospital in Mason City on Sept. 1 at the age of 62 years, 2 months and 9 days.

Included in the group of out of town relatives and friends attending the services for Mr. Hyde were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hyde, Mr. and Mrs. Don Jensen. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mooney and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Anderson of Sac City, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Boyington of Frankfort, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Emerson and Mr. and Mrs. Al Bach of Iowa Falls, Rev. and Mrs. A. G. Emerson, Carolyn and Karen of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Dean Boyington of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffman of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Jensen and Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Jensen of Crystal Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Rowen of LuVerne. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Munnis, Mrs. Gordon Thomas, Mrs. Marjorie Rowen and son, Johnnie of Clarion, Mrs. Grace Richards of Alexander, Mr. and Mrs. C. Carstens of Belmond, Rev. Flint, Mrs. Bessie Knox, Mrs. Lottie Crafton, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ryan. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hart, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Bangs, Mrs. C. S. Olson and Ollie Ann, Mrs. Chas.
