Haydn E. Jones, 67, of Belmond, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Currier and Deacon Nick Schmit, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Belmond American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Tenold Funeral Home, with a rosary at 2:30 p.m. by the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a 7 p.m. Scripture service, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Haydn Edward Jones, the son of John P. and Grace T. (Allen) Jones, was born May 22, 1928, in Belmond. He graduated from Belmond High School and received his Civil Engineering degree from Iowa State University. He served in the 444th Engineer Corp in Germany from 1951-1953. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Kathleen Hocraffer on Dec. 29, 1955, in Mason City. To this union three children were born. Haydn was employed at Rowat & Murray Engineering of Belmond during high school summers and after pursuing his degree, was a full-time employee in 1956. In February of 1959, he started as Assistant Wright County Engineer and was appointed Wright County Engineer in December of 1966, and served until his retirement in February 1994, after serving 35 years. Haydn was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Belmond, member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8110, member of the National Association of County Engineers, American Legion Post 35 for 42 years, IPERS Improvement Association, and served his church by being on the Parish Council, Lay Minister, lector and usher. In 1991 he was given a Service Award by Gov. Terry Branstad.

He is survived by a daughter, Jan Ellen Jones of Mason City; sons, Brian and Kevin Jones of Minneapolis, Minn.; sisters, Carolyn Summers and her husband, Robert, of Belmond; Monica Kohmetschier and her husband, John, of Lansing, Mich.; Colleen Flanagan and her husband, Alan, of Cedar Rapids; and Barbara Rogers of Ames. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, on Feb. 5, 1996; sister, Mary; and brothers, Tony and Larry.
