Harold Christian Svendsen, 81, of Hampton, died Sunday (Nov. 7, 1999) at the Hampton Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton, with Father Gerald Condon officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Belmond. Visitation was held Monday, with a scripture service, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

Harold Christian Svendsen was born on April 21, 1918, in Garner, the son of Peter Jens and Helena (Neilsen) Svendsen. He was educated in country schools in Wright County. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Harold was united in marriage to Jane Ellen Holtzbauer on May 27, 1943 in Riverside, Calif. He was a farmer in Belmond. He had also worked for Chamberlin Trailers in Hampton, as well as United Hydraulics in Hampton. He enjoyed gardening and growing roses. He was creative and made clocks from wood for each of his family members. He enjoyed traveling and short rides to look at the crops and to Beeds Lake. He was a good husband and father and enjoyed his family. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Svendsen, of Hampton; three daughters, Barb Oudekerk, of Hampton, Jo Ann Kramer, of Clarion and Kathye Gaines, of Mason City; one son, Charles Svendsen, of Hampton; seven grandchildren; and one great-grand child. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Helmar; and a brother in infancy. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.
