Mason City (Iowa) Globe GazetteBELMOND — Michael Lee Armour, 55, of Belmond, died Thursday (Nov. 12, 1998) at the Belmond Community Hospital, in Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Belmond, with the Rev. Jim Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Belmond Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home, in Belmond.
Michael Lee Armour was born on Aug. 20, 1943, at the Belmond Community Hospital. He was the son of Ronald "Punch" and Avon (Kinseth) Armour. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1961. He served in the United States Army from 1963-1966, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. After returning home, he attended NIACC and graduated with AAS and AA. In 1971, he graduated from Winona State College with a BA degree in Business Administration. Mike worked for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, Mo., City Supply Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa and Waldinger Corporation, in Des Moines, Iowa, as a project manager. In 1976, he returned to Belmond to work at Kinseth Plumbing & Heating as a mechanical estimator. In 1989, he became an owner of the business. He was also an instructor at NIACC for Associated Builders and Contractors. On Oct. 27, 1972, Mike married Sylvia Ross at Sioux Falls, S.D., in a double wedding ceremony with Sylvia's sister, Nancy and her husband, Rick Lee. Rick died in 1977. Mike will be laid to rest in a plot adjacent to Rick's. Mike's friendly smile and witty sense of humor made him a friend to all. Mike was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. He loved driving his "55 " Chevy and showing it at car shows. Mike was admired by all of those who knew him. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He touched many lives, and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia, of Belmond; two sons, Chad Armour, of Belmond and Mark Armour, of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughter, April Armour, of Mason City; mother, Avon Armour, of Belmond; sister, Deb Burnham and her husband, Fred, of Belmond; father and mother-in-law, Herbert and Vivian Ross, of Dows; two sisters-in-law, Toni Armour, of Belmond, and Nancy Lee, of Clear Lake; nieces and nephews, Matt and Sue Armour, of Mason City; Jesse Armour, of Cedar Falls; Jessica Burnham and her daughter, Shania, of Belmond; Jodi Burnham, of Belmond; Stacie and Simmie Elmore and their children, Alexa and Dillon, of Manly; Ryan Lee, of Mount Vernon; and Rick and Mika Lee and their children, Daniel and Ricky, of Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Ronald; an infant brother, James; and brother, Terry Armour.
