Paul Eugene Sheesley, 92, of Stanhope, died on Thursday, September 14, 2006, at the Southfield Wellness Community, Webster City. Funeral services were held on Monday, September 18, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Boone. The 1:30 p.m. service was conducted by Rev. Bruce Lakamp. Burial was in the St. Paul's Cemetery, rural Boone.
Paul Eugene Sheesley, was born on June 30, 1914 in Oskaloosa, the son of Harry and Mary Hasley Sheesley. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School. Paul Sheesley and Margaret Rebecca Wade were united in marriage in Missouri on October 29, 1935. The couple moved to Stanhope in 1936, where he owned and operated the Wade Hatchery for many years. In the late 1950's, at the same location, he operated a farm hardware store until his retirement in 1980. For over 50 years, they spent their leisure time at Lake Cornelia. His passion was gardening and he enjoyed golfing with his buddies at the Clarmond Country Club. Paul was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of rural Boone, and for many years was an active member of the Stanhope Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one son, Wade Sheesley and wife, Helen of Stanhope; one daughter, Linda Jackson and husband, Terry of Clarion; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan McMains of Iowa City; three nephews; and two nieces and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ralph and Max.
