Former Clarion Man Dies in Minnesota

Jay A. Scott, 52, treasurer of the Minnesota Methodist Conference, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 1968. Mr. Scott, who lived at 5925 Oakland Ave., Minneapolis, Minn, headed a firm of certified public accountants bearing his name before joining the Minnesota Methodist Conference in 1966. He was a member of the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants. He belonged to Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church, where he served on the official board, the world service commission and the Camp Koinonia management committee. He was appointed auditor of the church and served until his death. He was a native of Clarion, Iowa. He was born on a farm near Clarion on Jan. 17, 1916 to Clarence and Rose (Fletcher) Scott. After his father's death, he, his mother and sister, Margaret moved to Clarion, where he grew to manhood. He graduated from the Clarion High School in 1933, and University of Iowa in 1937 majoring in Business Administration. On September 16, 1940 he was united in marriage with Miss Jane Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Surviving are his widow, Jane; two sons, Thomas, a medical student in the University of Minn., John, a High School senior; a daughter, Kathryn, a senior in St. Olaf College at Northfield, Minn., stepfather, Henry S. Thompson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Glass and Mrs. Rebecca Eggleston, Cedar Rapids; and two brothers, Earl C. Thompson, Cedar Rapids, and Richard Thompson, Bettendorf, Iowa. Services were held at 1 p. m. Saturday in Hennepin Avenue Methodist church at
Minneapolis, Minn, with burial in Oakhill cemetery.
