Francis Vearl Kent, son of Albert and Estella "Stella" Paxton Kent, was born April 2, 1885 in Eureka Township and passed away Thursday afternoon February 22, 1951 at 2 p.m. at the Adair County Memorial Hospital at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 20 days. He spent his life in Adair County with the exception of a short time spent at Cheyenne, Wyo.; Eagle Grove and Sigourney, Iowa. He opened a business for himself for a short time and after his health failed was employed with several firms as his health permitted. The marriage of Vearl and Miss Grace Chambers took place March 15, 1924 and they have spent nearly 27 happy years together. He has been in ill health since 1948 as the result of a heart attack. It is quite a coincidence that his death came on the same date, Feb. 22, as his brother Joy Kent, who preceded him 11 years ago.
Surviving are his wife and her aged mother Mrs. Villa Chambers, 88, in the home; 2 sisters Mrs. G.G. Greenbeck of Greenfield and Mrs. Paul Richardson of Greeley, Colorado; and his brother's wife Mrs. Joy Kent of Berkley, Mich.; also 3 nephews and 4 nieces, with other relatives and a host of friends who mourn his passing, together with the members of I.O.O.F. Lodge of Greenfield. He was a kind friend, a good neighbor, always ready to help those less fortunate than himself in their time of need and to offer comfort in times of distress to those he met along life's way. He loved his home life and appreciated the many kindnesses shown him when his health failed and during his final illness. He was content at home with his family and had no desire to seek public life for entertainment. He was honest in his dealings with his fellowmen and was especially kind and fond of children who were always pleased to meet him. He was of a quiet nature and lived each day so well- that at its close he had no ill will toward anyone and was ever ready to lay life's burdens down at the setting of the sun and accept the challenge of the life that lies beyond.
