Mason City Globe GazetteBELMOND -- Berneice Julia Eliason, 89, of Minot, N.D., formerly of Belmond, died Sunday (March 2, 1997) at Trinity Nursing Home, Minot, N.D. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Jim Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Berneice Julia (Lein) Eliason, the daughter of Amond A. and Bertha (Hoovel) Lein, was born Sept. 1, 1907, at Roland. She was baptized in Roland and after the family moved to a farm in Winnebago County, she was confirmed at Forest City. She attended rural schools until moving into Forest City in 1919, graduated from Forest City High School in 1926; attended Waldorf College, graduating in academic business courses in 1927, and graduated from Waldorf Junior College Normal in 1930. She taught rural schools near Kanawha, Garner and Forest City and upper grades in Miller. Berneice was united in marriage to Harold C. Eliason on May 30, 1941. They lived at Kanawha until October of 1975, when they moved to Belmond. She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Kanawha and Trinity Lutheran in Belmond since 1976. She was president and secretary of Lutheran Aid, Hancock County Extension Council, member LCW, Dorcas and Esther Circles, Senior Citizens Club, Over 60 Club, longtime member of the "Sons of Norway," and was secretary to two presidents of Waldorf College.
Surviving are her children, Arlene Eliason of Minot, N.D.; and David Eliason of Dubuque; a sister, Pearl Rogers of Austin, Minn.; and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold, in 1977; three brothers; and two sisters.
