BELMOND — Doris Ardelle Burk, 84, of Belmond, passed away Monday (Jan. 24, 2005) at Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral service for Doris Burk will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Goodell with Pastor Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial will take place in Amsterdam Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Doris, the daughter of Roy Davis and Myrtle Bearbower, was born April 18, 1920, in Mora, Minn. As a young child Doris and her family moved to the Kanawha area, where Doris attended school and graduated from high school in 1938. On June 14, 1939, Doris was united in marriage with Don Burk at United Methodist Church in Kanawha. The couple made their home at Ruby Hill Farm, where Doris helped with farming and with the chickens. In 1989, they moved to the family home in Belmond. Doris and Don loved square dancing and spending time with friends. She was a wonderful cook and baker; she enjoyed tending to her flowers and especially enjoyed quilting. She was a member of the Prairie Quilters Club, Over Sixty's Club and Grandmothers' Club. Often, Doris could be found watching Tom play softball or having coffee with her coffee groups. She loved it when the boys would take her fishing. She enjoyed the company of her parakeet, Dickie. Most of all, Doris enjoyed doing things for her family. Doris was a member of United Methodist Church in Goodell. She was also a member of the UMW in Klemme. In her younger years, she was a Sunday school teacher.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Patty Kuhlers, of Clear Lake, two sons, Bob and wife, Karen, of Story City and Tom and wife, Jackie, of Goodell; six grandchildren, Krista Pals and husband, Dighton, Kent Kuhlers and wife, Kim, Kari Mennenga and husband, Mike, Phil Burk and wife, Laura, Ryan Paulsen and wife, Robyn, and Nathan Burk; six great grandchildren, Julia Eckhoff and husband, Shane, Alyssa and Brianne Pals, Shelby Mennenga and Colton and Olivia Kuhlers; one great-great grandchild, Emily; a brother-in-law, Gerald Burk, and wife, Nellie; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; son-in-law, Marlyn Kuhlers; two brothers: Howard and Harold; and a sister, Lela.
