BELMOND - Marilyn Kay Kling, 61, of Belmond, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. John Lutheran Church, Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Marilyn Kay (Steenhard) Kling, the daughter of Clarence and Jennie (Wiemann) Steenhard, was born on July 29, 1938, in Hampton. Her family lived in Latimer, Britt, and Meservey, and she attended and graduated from Belmond Community High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Richard Kling on Aug. 4, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church, in Belmond. The couple made their home in Belmond. Marilyn was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. Her church work allowed her to serve in the Lutheran Church Women (LCW) as its president and she actively worked on the St. John Church Council and many other church groups as an organizer and participant. In addition, while her children were at home, Marilyn was a Campfire Girl Leader. Marilyn enjoyed playing golf and cards. She played bridge and 500 with her many friends and she enjoyed participating in many card clubs, one of which she was a member for 33 years. She was also active in many community activities, which included the Culture Study Club, and she was a member at the Belmond Country Club. She worked closely with the Belmond Community Hospital, where she held numerous offices for the Hospital Auxiliary. Her hospital volunteer work included being a receptionist for the outpatient clinics and as a volunteer with the Wright County Hospice. Marilyn was also very proud to be a Belmond Fire Department wife.

Survivors include her husband, Richard, of Belmond; three daughters, Susan Whitty and her husband, Richard, of Belmond, Pamela Kling and her friend, Mike Rausch, of Tucson, Ariz. and Cynthia Kling, of Okinawa, Japan; two grandsons, Nathan and Justin Whitty; her mother, Jennie Steenhard, of Belmond; one sister, Sharon Hagie, of Clarion; mother-in-law, Rosie Kling, of Belmond; and two nephews, Chris Hagie and Tim Hagie and his wife, Anne and their daughter, Jaymie. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence; and by three siblings at birth. Tenold Funeral Home,
