BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. -- Florence L. "Flossy" Carter, 69, of Brooklyn Center, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 1996) at the Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Clarion, Iowa. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.

Florence L. "Flossy" Carter was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Clear Lake, Iowa, to Mell and Iva May (Hill) VerHelst. She was raised and was educated at Swaledale, Iowa, graduating from Swaledale High School. She married Arthur Carter in 1948 and they made their home in Webster City, Iowa. He died in 1963. After he died, she moved to Minneapolis, and in 1966 she married Richard Carter and had made her home there ever since.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; one daughter, Diana Ellis and her husband, David, of Brooklyn Center; one son, Michael and his wife, Kathy, of Brooklyn Center; one sister, Gail Langletz of Goodell, Iowa; four brothers, Lester VerHelst of West Liberty, Iowa; Leland VerHelst of Otley, Iowa; Russell VerHelst of Klemme, Iowa, and Kenneth VerHelst of Kanawha, Iowa; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, first husband, six brothers and two sisters.
