Mason City Globe GazetteMollie (Erdman) Kalkwarf, 78, of Belmond, died Monday (Feb. 17, 1997) at the Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home with the family greeting friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to services.
Mollie (Erdman) Kalkwarf, the daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth (Groh) Erdman, was born April 28, 1918, in Maywood, Ill. She was united in marriage to Ed Schimp on Aug. 14, 1938, and to this union one son, Larry, was born. After Ed's death, Mollie continued to live in Belmond and married Ernest Kalkwarf on July 15, 1976, at Belmond. They made their home in Belmond. Ernie died on April 20, 1987. Mollie was a cook for many years at the Belmond Schools, was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church, and enjoyed attending church bazaars and craft shows. She loved playing cards with friends and family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving her are her son, Larry Schimp and his wife, Nancy, of Belmond; grandsons, Marty Schimp and his wife, Kim, of Williams, and Michael Schimp and his wife, Tammy, of Hampton; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, Kevin, Bryce and Molly; sisters, Mary Pringnitz, Hilda Lee and Minnie Johnson, all of Belmond, and Betty Faulkner and Ann Pierce, both of Webster City; brother, Harold "Sonny" Erdman of Belmond; stepchildren, Mrs. Larry (Janis) Hase of Arvada, Colo.; Miriam Kalkwarf of Larkspur, Colo.; Mrs. Jim (Adrienne) Pasquariello of Belmond; Paul Kalkwarf of Golden, Colo.; Merrill Kalkwarf of Mexico City, Mexico, and Neil Kalkwarf of Belmond; 11 stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. Preceding Mollie in death were her parents and husbands, Ed Schimp and Ernest Kalkwarf.
