KANAWHA - Raymond J. Pyle, 82, of Kanawha, died Monday (Aug. 16, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Holmes Lutheran Church in Holmes, with the Rev. Kathy Graves, of Mason City, officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion.

Raymond John Pyle was born on May 26, 1917, in Wall Lake Township, Wright County, to Merl and Hattie (Sebert) Pyle. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1936. Raymond was united in marriage with Katherine Pearl Michelsen on Sept. 30, 1944, at her parents' farm near Kanawha. They were married 54 years. Raymond farmed in the Eagle Grove and Clarion areas for 45 years. He retired in 1981 and moved to Kanawha in 1988. He was director and past president of the Wright County Farm Bureau, a member of the Eagle Grove and Clarion Saddle Clubs, participated in the Senior Bowling League at Belmond, the Pony Express Riders and was awarded a Five-Year Buckle by the Eminence Missouri Trail Riders. Raymond was also a member of the Holmes Lutheran Church. He spent his retirement doing what he loved most, horseback riding and gardening.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Katherine, of Kanawha; five children, Donna Ullah and husband, Hamid, of Valdosta, Ga., Barb Amdahl and husband, Maynard, of Ankeny, David Pyle, of Clarion, Sharon Montgomery and husband, Jeff, of Belmond, and Betty Niehaus and husband, Butch, of Clarinda; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Robert; two daughters, Diane, in 1945 and Mary Pomereau in 1995; and one grandson, Brandon, in 1978.
