BELMOND - Edna Maye Bohning Aldrich, 91, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 7, 1999) at Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond. Private Family services will be held. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery near Rowan. Visitation for the public will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond.

Edna, the daughter of William P. and Jennie Steenblock Bohning, was born March 23, 1908, on the family farm near Belmond. She grew up in the Belmond area, where she attended country schools. Edna graduated from Belmond High School in 1926, where she received her normal training. After high school Edna taught country school in Pleasant Township and Iowa Township near Belmond.
Edna was united in marriage to R. E. Lee "Fox" Aldrich Jr. on July 19, 1930, at the Congregational Church parsonage in Clarion. The couple made their home on the family farm southeast of Belmond. Edna continued her teaching at country schools until 1934. The couple remained on the family farm their entire married life. Mr. Aldrich passed away May 4, 1981. Edna was first of all a housewife and mother. She maintained the household, not only for her husband and children, but also for all employees of the Aldrich farming operation. Edna enjoyed arranging flowers. She was a member of the Progress Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Farm Bureau Women.

Edna is survived by one daughter, Joan Rietz and her husband, Roger, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Jerry Aldrich and his wife, Bertha, of Alden, and Lee Aldrich and his wife, Lynne, of Belmond; eight grandchildren, Steve, Doug, Carol, Thomas, Sarah, Forrest, Todd and Lance; four great-grandchildren, Danny, Brian, Kaitlyn and Caroline; one sister, Faye Trager of Rowan; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Bill Bohning; and one foster brother, Arthur Conners. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.
