Ryle A. Andrews, 80, of Belmond, passed away on Tuesday (Aug. 6, 2002) at the Belmond Medical Center from complications of multiple myeloma. is funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the United Church of Rowan, with Pastor Janet Wearda officiating. Burial will take place in the Graceland Cemetery near Rowan. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond, and will continue one hour before services on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Ryle Arnold Andrews was born on Jan. 25, 1922, on a farm west of Rowan, the son of Leslie Myron and Matilda "Tillie" (Bohlen) Andrews. He was one of four children: two brothers, Vergene and Ronald Andrews; and one sister, Norma Halfwassen. He attended and graduated from Rowan High School. On Nov. 19, 1944, Ryle was united in marriage with Bernice Carol State at her parents' home near Rowan. The couple farmed near Rowan for more than 48 years. During that time, Ryle served on the Rowan School Board for eight years, helped with the school reorganization, and served on the Belmond School Board for eight years. Ryle was a Wright County supervisor from 1980 until 1984; he was a member of the Rowan Lion's Club of which he was the club secretary for several years and also district zone chairman for two terms. He was a life-long member of the United Church of Rowan, where he held many offices. Ryle also had many hobbies and interests: he loved horses and trail riding, wintering in Harlingen, Texas, camping trips, wood-working, playing pool and cards, boating and skiing at Lake Cornelia, fishing and golfing. Ryle enjoyed flying and achieved his Certified Aviation Pilots license.

Left to cherish Ryle's memory are his wife, Bernice; five children, Diana Hoover and her husband, Lee, of Cedar Rapids, Leslie R. Andrews and his wife, Karen, of Rowan, Moonstone White and her husband, Skip, of Navarre, Fla., Val Dougherty and her husband, Steve, of Belmond, Jacque Maiorino and her husband, Paul, of Boca Raton, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Thad Hoover and wife, Ericka, Trent Hoover and Emily, Chrystal Andrews, Katie Barkema and husband, Tim, Sara Dougherty, Eric Andrews, and Neil Dougherty; six great-grandchildren, Whitney Hoover, Carlee Hoover, Mariah Hoover, McKayla Kleinshrodt, Colton Andrews and Avery Barkema. Also surviving him are three sisters-in-law, Marvel Box, of Rowan, Hannah Andrews, of Belmond and Enid Andrews, of Belmond; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a large circle of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
