BELMOND - Funeral services for Gareth "Gary" Gene Lamfers, 45, of Goodell, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with the Rev. Gary Johnson, Hospice Chaplain, and Pastor Lynne Spencer-Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery in Belmond. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Gareth "Gary" Gene Lamfers, the son of Seabo and Phyllis (Kirkwood) Lamfers, was born Sept. 5, 1954, at Belmond. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1972. He began working for Hagie Manufacturing from 1972 to 1976 and had been employed by IMT from 1976 until the present. He was a member of the Goodell Fire Department and Ventura Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was hardworking and always on the go. He married Christine Greeley on Jan. 18, 2000, and they made their home in Goodell. Gary had been fighting a battle with cancer and died at his home on Monday (March 27, 2000).

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Christine, of Goodell; daughter, Heather Ann Boyd and her husband, Flint, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Brook and Brendon Boyd; stepchildren, Richard Bates and Amanda Bates; his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Harry Wenig, of Belmond; sister, Helen Waters and her husband, David, of Los Angeles, Calif.; brothers, Wayne Lamfers and his wife, Petra, of Belmond, Steve Lamfers and his wife, Pat, of Loveland, Colo., David Lamfers and his wife, Marie, of New Orleans, La., Vern Lamfers and his wife, Connie, of Garner, and James Lamfers, of Rowan; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Seabo Lamfers. Tenold Funeral Home.
