HAMPTON - Johnnie B. Koenen, 82, of Hampton, died Monday (April 17, 2000) at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Zion Reformed Church in rural Sheffield, with the Rev. Art Zewert officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Sheffield. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

Johnnie B. Koenen was born Feb. 6, 1918, in Franklin County, a son of Bernhard and Helen (Pals) Koenen. Johnnie was raised in rural Franklin County and educated in rural Franklin County schools. Johnnie B. Koenen was united in marriage on April 9, 1941, to Elizabeth Jurgens in Franklin County. He was a farmer involved in agriculture. He served on the Zion Reformed Church Consistory for 13 years, Zion Reformed Church Planning and Development Committee for six years, Marion Township Trustee from 1963 to 1992, was a past CAL School Board member, served on Franklin County ASC Committee for nine years and Franklin County FHA Committee for three years. He was a member of River City Chorus of Mason City for 18 years, charter member of Brotherhood of Zion, past Sunday school teacher. He was a member of InterFaith Men Chorus of Grundy Center Area. He loved people, singing, farming, traveling and being with family.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Koenen of Hampton; one son, Keith Koenen and his fiancee, Cindy Rolling, of Sheffield; one daughter, Karlene Willemsen of Eugene, Ore.; sister, Kate Meinders of Meservey; sister, Gertie Frohling of Rowan; sister-in-law, Hattie Koenen of Belmond; four grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Jennifer, Jalene and her husband, Steve, Jeff and Jim; one great-grandson, Zachary; and special friends, Ryan and Jason. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Pete and Bernard Koenen; and one grandson, Rodney Willemsen. Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home.
