Melvin McAlpine, 84, of Belmond, died Monday (May 4, 1998) at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Rowan, with the Rev. JoAn Lent Skyrme officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Melvin McAlpine was born Oct. 5, 1913, south of Belmond. Survivors include two sons, Larry McAlpine, of Manning, and Rex McAlpine, of Brandenberg, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and two brothers.
