MASON CITY - Katheleen I. Sazanovich, 71, of 515 Fifteenth St. N.W., died Thursday (Dec. 9, 1999) at USA Healthcare Inc. of Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home and until service time Monday. Memorials may be directed to the Katheleen I. Sazanovich Memorial Fund.

Katheleen I. Sazanovich was born July 30, 1928, in Buffalo Center, the daughter of Alfred and Grace (Abbas) Johnson. Her family moved to Belmond when she was a child and she attended school in the Belmond and Rowan areas. On July 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Donald J. Sazanovich at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City. Katheleen worked as a canned meat inspector at Armour Company for 26 years, retiring in 1976. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, traveling and sightseeing all over the United States, Venezuela, Mexico, Jamaica, Colombia and Canada.

Katheleen is survived by her husband of 51 years, Donald Sazanovich, Mason City; brothers and sisters, Ken Johnson and his wife, Dorothy, Kansas City, Kan., Marvin Johnson and his wife, Theresa, Stacyville, Alvera Phoenix, Tucson Ariz., and Josephene Shelburg, Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Margurite Johnson, Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jenny LaRue, Marie Cutis and Dorothy Johnson; and brothers, Fred Johnson and Merrill Johnson.
