April 22, 1999ROWAN - Loran LaVerne Hadley, 83, died Tuesday (April 20, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Rowan, with Pastor JoAn Skyrme officiating. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery, Rowan. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.
Loran, the son of Herbert and Mabel (Drury) Hadley, was born Aug. 16, 1915, at Belmond. He grew up in the Rowan and Belmond areas where he attended school, graduating from Belmond High School in 1932. Loran was united in marriage to Esther Marie Antionette Betz on June 20, 1942, in Maynard. The couple made their home near Rowan, where Loran farmed. Esther passed away July 8, 1955. Loran was united in marriage to Marladean Stadtlander on Dec. 30, 1958, at her parent's home. They made their home near Rowan, where Loran continued to farm. Loran was a salesman for Pioneer Seed Corn, selling for the company for more than 30 years. Loran farmed his entire life and never really retired. His heart was always in farming. He was a lover of animals, most notably horses and exotic poultry. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors and accumulated an extensive collection over the last 10 years. Loran was an active member of his community. He served the 4-H over 25 years, was on the Wright County ASCS Committee for 37 years, was a Midwest Genetics board member, and served on the Wright County FHA board. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Rowan Apartments, and also a member of the Rowan Lions Club. An active member of the United Church of Rowan, Loran sang in the choir, served as Sunday school superintendent, and also kept busy with other committees in the church.
Loran is survived by his wife, Marladean; one daughter, Tracy Gabrielson and her husband, Randy, of Belmond; two sons, LaVerne and his wife, Mary, of Hampton, and Kevin and his wife, Betty, of Rowan; eight grandchildren, Dean and his wife, Sara, Katherine, Kyle, Wyatt, Christy and her husband, Tony, Cherish, Alex and Alyssa; also, one great-grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Esther; and a sister, Celeste.
