EAGLE GROVE - Martin Julius Larson, 78, of Eagle Grove, died Sunday (Sept. 2, 2001) at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, with a rosary service at 5 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7 p.m.
Martin Julius Larson, the son of Torvold and Clara Olson Larson, was born June 20, 1923, in Kanawha. He was raised and educated in Thor, Iowa. Martin was united in marriage with Marjorie Thul on Sept. 22, 1943, in Eagle Grove. He left his farming duties for a few years while he served in the United States Navy at Okinawa, during World War II. Martin was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau, the Wall Lake Country Club and was a Norway Township trustee. He also enjoyed woodworking ( making several grandfather clocks), playing cards, including Somerset and 500. He also belonged to a 500 club for more than 40 years. Martin loved his family and spending time with grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Marge, Eagle Grove; two daughters, Diane and her husband, Dr. Darrell Neuberger, Garner, and Marcia and her husband, Steve Loux, of Thor, Iowa; brother, Bjarne Larson and his wife, Marta, LaMirada, Calif.; sisters, Kitty Fevold, Goldfield; Agnes and her husband, Don Norgang, of New Hampton, and Julia Larson, Waterloo, and five granddaughters, Melissa, Kristin, Erin, Emily and Laura. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and Carl. Foust Funeral Home.
