BELMOND - Duane Austin McCurry, 82, of Belmond, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at the Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Celestyne DeVance officiating. Burial will be in United Methodist Swiss Cemetery, Renwick. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, and one hour prior to services at the church. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Duane McCurry was born Dec. 5, 1917, on a farm homesteaded by his grandfather in Liberty Township in Goldfield, the son of James Howard and Grace Geraldine Packard McCurry. He was baptized in the Evangelical Church in Renwick, where he was an active member for many years. He attended Liberty Township country school and Renwick High School, graduating in 1936. He was united in marriage to Ruth A. Figi on May 4, 1940, in Renwick. The couple made their home on a farm south of Renwick. He farmed his entire life. After retiring in 1980, the couple moved to Belmond, where they have since resided. He was a member of the Belmond United Methodist Church, a 50-year member and past master of the Viona Masonic Lodge 538. He was a good husband and father, enjoyed his home, his family and camping with his grandchildren. The couple spent several winters in Texas and enjoyed "trailering."

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; three children, Dennis Duane and his wife, Elaine of Renwick, David Paul and his wife, Mary Jo, of Marshalltown and Mary Ellen Eekhoff and her husband, Ronald, of Renwick; nine grandchildren, Angela and her husband, Randy Loomis, Blaine McCurry and his wife, Lori, Jill and her husband, Brad Reichter, Jennifer and her husband, Tom Hilton, Kristen McCurry, Theresa and her husband, Jack Blong, Paula and her husband, Tony Kubly, Crystal and her husband, Corey Nelson and Sue Ann Eekhoff; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Miriam Mahood of Vinton, William McCurry and his wife, Bea, of Humboldt, and Wilma Tatone of Bloomington, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; great granddaughter, Megan Marie Loomis; and brother, Don McCurry. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.
