MASON CITY - Neva G. Mason, 101, a resident of Hake's Care Home, died Tuesday (June 18, 2002) at her residence. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church Wayside Chapel, Mason City, with the Rev. Douglas Anderson officiating. Interment will be at 2:15 p.m. Monday at Union Mound Cemetery, Sumner, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, Mason City.

Neva G. Mason was born Oct. 4, 1900, in Sumner, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. G.W. and Ada (Mullican) Darnell. She graduated from Sumner High School and Upper Iowa University, where she studied to receive her teaching degree. She taught for five years in Sumner, Goldfield and Ringsted. She was united in marriage to J. Earl Mason Sr. on July 8, 1926, in her family's home in Ringsted. In 1939, they moved to Mason City, where they owned and operated J.E. Mason Hatchery. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Unity Chapter No. 58 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed taking care of her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, J. Earl Mason Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Mason City, and Dr. Robert Mason and wife, Anne, of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Gregory R. Mason of Garrison, Rod E. Mason of Cedar Rapids, Scott Mason and his wife, Dianne, of Amana, and Paul R. Mason and his wife, Natalie, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two great-granddaughters, Sydney and Abby Mason of Amana; one great-grandson, Christopher L. Mason and his wife, Danielle, of Cedar Rapids; and one great-great-grandson, Blaze Mason of Cedar Rapids. Neva was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Mary K. Estey and Pauline Gross; and two brothers, Roderick and Russell Darnell. Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory.
