C. J. Nissen retired meat cutter, dies
Conrad John Nissen, 74, retired meat cutter, died Wednesday afternoon at a Mason City hospital. He had lived in Mason City 33 years and made his home at 924 N. Jackson. Mr. Nissen was born Aug. 20, 1891, in Holstein, Germany, son of William and Louise (Reimers) Nissen. He came to the United States from Germany at the age of 14. He was married to Hannah Petersen, Aug. 21, 1912, at Algona. Mr. Nissen operated a meat market at LuVerne a number of years and later moved to Belmond. In 1932 the family moved to Mason City, where he was employed as a meat cutter.
Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Alice Glines, Los Angeles, Mrs. Merrill J. (Gladys) Fiala, Mason City, and Mrs. Robert (Norma Jean) Bell, Clear Lake; two sons, Wayne Nissen, Costa Mesa, Calif.; and Gary Nissen, San Diego, Calif., 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. George (Anna) Meyers, Whittemore, and Mimi Campbell, Spencer, also survive. He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers. Mr. Nissen was a member of the First Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Major-Erickson Funeral Home is in charge.
