Death came suddenly at Age of 53 Years to Respected Citizen
EARLHAM-This community was shocked last Friday, May 23 by the sudden death of Arthur R. Schleiffarth, a well-known and respected resident here since 1932. His death occurred early Friday morning, after he had attended graduation exercises Thursday evening at the high school where his daughter, Dorothy was a member of the graduating class.
Mr. Schleiffarth was 52 years of age. He was born at Belmond on May 30, 1899, and spent his early life there. After coming to Earlham in 1932, he first operated the Chevrolet garage here. In 1944 he moved the garage to DeSoto, but continued his residence here. Since last August he had served as custodian of the Earlham school building. He was a member of the Friends church, the Earlham Volunteer Fire department and the Odd Fellows lodge.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Eugene, who is now serving in the U. S. armed forces; two daughters, Dorothy and Patty, at home; his mother, Mrs. Caroline Schleiffarth, and a sister, Mrs. H. C. Ellis, both of Carthage, Tex.; and two brothers, Alva and Walter Schleiffarth. Burial in the Earlham Cemetery.
