September 7, 1996Mable A. Diekhuis, 70, of Belmond, died Thursday (Sept. 5, 1996) at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ken Fineran officiating. Interment will be in Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tenold Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may direct it to the Mable Diekhuis Memorial Fund.
Mable A. Diekhuis, the daughter of Carl and Viola (Hampton) Benson, was born on Dec. 2, 1925, in Clarion. She received her education in the Belmond school system and after graduation became a teacher. Mable married Johann Diekhuis on April 27, 1944, at Clarion. They started farming southeast of Belmond and farmed there until November of 1994. They moved to Belmond in September of 1981. Mable was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, served on the administration board, pastor-parish and served in many other capacities at the church. She helped organize the Belmond Country Club and served many years on the Hospital Auxiliary board.
Survivors include one son, Delos and his wife, Linda, of Belmond; daughter, Carlene of Rochester, Minn.; two grandchildren, Brandon and Stacy; two sisters-in-law, Jessie Benson of St. Joseph, Mo., and Frances Benson of Minneapolis, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johann; half-brother, Orville Boucher; sister, Chrystal Hardy; and brothers, Cecil Benson and Allen Benson.
