EAGLE GROVE -- Betty Amelia Thompson, 70, died Friday (Aug. 8, 1997) at the Hamilton County Public Hospital, Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Wayne Droessler officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today at Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Betty Amelia Gehler was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Clarion. She attended St. John's grade school at Clarion. Her family moved to Mason City, where she graduated from St. Joseph's High School. She attended A.I.B. and then worked for the Civil Service in San Francisco. She returned to Mason City and was united in marriage to Harland H. Thompson on June 21, 1945, at St. Joseph's Rectory. She moved to Eagle Grove in 1986. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Betty enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, needlework and quilt making.

She is survived by her four daughters, Susan Thompson of Bancroft; Sherry (Mrs. T. William) Bixby of Eden Prairie, Minn., Sally (Mrs. Michael) Sadler of Eagle Grove, and Synthia (Mrs. Terry) Osborne of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren, Jason and Nancy Bixby of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Joshua Bixby of Eden Prairie, Minn., Hillary Bixby of Eden Prairie, Shawn Rosc of Denison, Amelia Sadler of Eagle Grove, and Erik Sadler of Eagle Grove; and two sisters, Kathleen Bruce of Lake Mills, and Ethel Nelson of Mason City; and a very dear friend and neighbor, Marge Guilc. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1979; and one brother, August John Gehler.
