June 26, 1912- October 26, 2000

Opal "June" Silke, 88, of Alden, died of heart failure Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at the Hampton Care Center at Hampton. Services will be Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Alden, with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Visitaton will be one hour before services.

June was born June 26, 1912, at Dows, to C.E. and Deliah Campbell Hubbell. She graduated from the Dows High School in 1929 and on Dec. 30, 1933, she married John Silke at Mason City. June helped her husband in the corn shelling business and drove truck, hauling corn for 30 years. She had also been a receptionist at Surls Funeral Home in Alden for several years. June was a member of the Alden United Methodist Church, and past secretary of the U.M.W. women, past treasurer of the Alden Cemetery Board, and was member of the Royal Neighbors.

She is survived by a son, Bill Charles Silke of Holmen, Wis.; a granddaughter, Stacy Stackhouse; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; three sisters, Pearl Crabtree, Grace Cupp and an infant sister; and one brother, Joe Hubbell. Linn's Funeral Home of Alden was in charge of arrangements.
