Fonda Mae Smith, 89, of Hampton, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at the Hampton Care Center. Services will be Thursday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Hampton United Methodist Church with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.
Fonda was born May 8, 1912, in Dows to Joseph and Anne Fenninger Williams. She was raised in Dows and grduated from Dows High School in 1931. On May 18, 1933, she married Mike Smith in Garner. In 1958, she started cooking for the Hampton Schools and three years later she was manager of the South Side School where she worked until 1977. She also cooked for the Hampton Country Club for 11 years. She was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church; the Iowa State Food Services and the North Iowa District Food Services. She was a member of Leah Circle and Desilan Sunday School at the Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at Franklin General Hospital and Hampton Health Care Center. She loved little children and helping people.
She is survived by a son, John and wife, Cheryl, of Marshall, Minn.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a special niece, Pat Schumaker of Alden. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters and four brothers.
