Gwendolyn C. Stockdale, 88, of Iowa Falls died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 11, 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls, with burial to follow at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel, with the family present to receive friends between the hours of 6-8 p.m.
Gwendolyn was born Oct. 12, 1915, at Gladbrook, the daughter of Schuyler Elias and L. Ruth Corson. She attended the Gladbrook, Traer and Iowa Falls schools graduating from Iowa Falls High School in 1933. She graduated from Ellsworth Junior College in 1935, receiving her associate of arts degree. On May 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to Elmer Guy Stockdale. They farmed rented farms near Iowa Falls, Dows and Alden. In 1948, they moved to Lee Center community, where they remained. Gwen was also a financial officer for the Stockdale Corporation formed with her husband in 1958. She was a 56-year member of the Lee Center United Methodist Church where she held various offices and was active in youth education; a member of the Iowa Falls Women's Club; and a former member of the Edgewood Board of Directors.
She is survived by two sons, Steven C. and wife Virginia of Iowa Falls and Jerry and wife Diane of Cedar Falls; two daughters Sue Bruning and husband Tim of Castana, Barbara of Iowa Falls; 14 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer; one sister, Miriam Willey; two brothers, Keith Corson and Chester Corson; and her brother and sister-in-law Mervel and Ida Tordoff. Memorials may be directed to the Elmer and Gwen Stockdale Scholarship Fund, c/o the Ellsworth College Foundation, 1100 College Ave., Iowa Falls, IA 50126, or the Lee Center United Methodist Church, c/o 524 Indigo Ave., Alden, IA, 50006. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
