Les Thomas, 80, of rural Dows died Friday, June 11, 2004, at his home. Funeral services were Monday, June 14, at the Popejoy Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Layman officiating. Burial was in the East Friesland Cemetery, rural Ackley. Les was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Winterset to Eldon and Beulah (Eyerly) Thomas. He graduated from Winterset High School. On Jan. 20, 1946, Les was united in marriage to Mildred Lindaman. He later married Charlotte Walter on Dec. 27, 1991. Les farmed his entire life, retiring in March of 2004. He was a member of the Popejoy Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; two sons, Laurel Thomas of Williams and Neil Thomas of Dows; a daughter-in-law, Marcie Thomas of Richardson, Texas, two step-sons, David Walter of Lennox and Karl Walter of Clarinda; two step-daughters, Judy Jones of East Wenatchee, Wash., and Bonnie Boswell of Corning; five grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; a son, Paul; and a grandson, Jonathan. Surls Funeral Home of Alden was in charge of arrangements.
