October 7, 1916 - January 1, 2001

Cecil Elwood Silvey, 84, of Dows, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at the Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, due to complications from a fall and pneumonia. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 6 at 11 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Dows, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Rev. Tony Hershey will officiate.

Cecil was born Oct. 7, 1916, in Smithgrove, Ken., to Byrd and Daisy Lawrence Silvey. As a child he moved with his parents to Belmond and he was educated in the Rowan Public Schools. He farmed with his brothers for a few years then worked for other farmers in the area. On Oct. 1, 1940, he married Donnabelle Judson at the Presbyterian Church parsonage. They moved to Dows in 1968 after he retired from farming. He also worked for Starner Trowbridge Tiling and Bill Weidemann Construction. Cecil volunteered at the Blacksmith Shop in Dows, and enjoyed gardening. He was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church. He entered the USA Health Care of Urbandale, in September and then moved to the University Nursing and Rehabilitation.

He is survived by a son, Richard of Moorland; and two daughters, Linda Buckner of Des Moines, and Kathy Hilpipre of Fulton, Mo.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine Kielsmeier and Tinceoline Ziesman, both of Iowa Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1993; and five brothers, Lawrence, Veachel, Reule, Elmer, and Emory. Willim Funeral Home of Clarion is in charge of arrangements.
