Funeral Held in Alden Sunday For Stanley Douglas

Funeral services for Stanley Gordon Douglas were held Sunday at 2:15p.m. from St. Pauls Lutheran church in Alden with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Mr. Douglas was born June 24, 1914 in Hampton to John F and Carrie Abels Douglas. He attended country schools near Galt and moved with the family to Alden in 1925. He began work in 1929 at Jurgenson's store and worked there until 1936 when he was appointed post office clerk at Alden. He married Miss Leona M. Lettow in St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Buckeye on November 25, 1936 and a daughter was born to this union. In May of 1943 he was appointed postmaster at Alden upon the resignation of A.H. Blackmore. He held many offices in the voters' assembly and organizations of St. Pauls church in Alden; he was organist for about 15 years and choir director for about six years. He also served as secretary for the Alden Commercial Club. Survivors include his widow and a daughter, Mrs. John T. McGuire II of Algona. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers - Marion who died in infancy, Clare who died at the age of five and Lowell who died at 17.
