Pearl McAdams, 93, of Dows died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton. Services were held Tuesday, March 4, at First Lutheran Church in Dows with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Pastor Paul Thompson officiated. Memorials may be directed to the Ladies Aid at the First Lutheran Church.

Pearl [Madison McAdams] was born Nov. 28, 1909, near Goldfield where she was raised. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) in Cedar Falls, where she was on the diving team and received her teaching certificate. On Oct. 22, 1937, she married Bus McAdams. She worked at Bailey's store in Dows until 1950 when she earned her bachelor degree from Drake University in Des Moines. She returned to teaching and coached girl's basketball at Dows. She was active in the community as a vocal soloist and choir director at First Lutheran Church, Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, and member of Ladies Aid. She enjoyed music, flowers and gardening.

She is survived by her husband J.M. "Bus" McAdams of Dows, two sons, Fredrick and wife Vivian of Linn Creek, Mo., and Nile McAdams and wife Tara of Stillwater, Minn.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Glidden, of Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents and 15 brothers and sisters. Dows Community Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
