Rhoda Lavina Kreitlow, 85, of Dows, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at the USA Health Care Center in Dows. Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Dows, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Rev. Paul Thompson will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at the Elledge Funeral Home in Dows.
Rhoda was born March 6, 1916, west of Dows to George and Bessie Root. She received her education in rural schools and worked at the Ellsworth Ranch. On Nov. 16, 1935, she married Kenneth Kreilow Sr. in Indianola. After their marriage they farmed near Bradford, before moving to the family farm at Dows. In the 1980s they moved into Dows and farmed an acreage north of Dows. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Dows, the FLCW, and the Dows Birthday Club.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth Jr. and wife, Judy, of Kirksville, Mo.; a daughter, Karolyn Ellis and husband, LaVerne of Grandview, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Rosella Hansen of Dows, Elsie Foster of Webster City, Dorothy Cheever of Ames, and Mabel Prescher of Ellendale, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister.
