May Bell Knuths, 87, of Williams, formerly of Dows, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Services were held Monday, Feb. 17, at the Willim Funeral Home in Clarion with burial in the Galt Cemetery, rural Galt. Pastor Janet Wearda of the United Church of Rowan officiated.
May Bell was born April 25, 1915, at Muskogee, Okla., to William and Millie Dunaway Jacobson. She was raised and educated in Oklahoma until age 16. She then moved to Britt and lived with an aunt and uncle. On Oct. 6, 1937, she married Dale Knuths at Northwood. The couple made their home at Dows where they farmed until early 1960s they bought a farm near Galt. After the death of her husband in 1973, she continued to live on the farm until 1992 when she moved into the Dows Care Center. For the past 5 1/2 years she has been a resident of the Doug and Lori Wiseman Home at Williams. She enjoyed singing and embroidering.
She is survived two daughters, Alice Retleff and husband Larry of Rowan and Carol Madden and husband Robert of Livingston, Texas; two sons, Alan Knuths of Pocahontas and David Knuths of Hull; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; a brother, William Jacobson, of San Antonio, Texas; and a sister, Grace, who was adopted as a child. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter-in-law, Sharon; two grandchildren, Philip Madden and Rex Knuths; four brothers, Woodrow, Frank, Marshall and Charles Jacobson; and three sisters, Hazel Worley, Violet McFarland and Pat Chapman. Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of arrangements.
