October 18, 1929 - October 15, 2000

Helen Fraser, 70, of Latimer, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dows. Rev. Tony Hershey will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at the Belmond Cemetery, Belmond. There will be no visitation.

Margaret Helen was born Oct. 18, 1929, on the family farm west of Belmond to Charles and Bertha Altweg Allen Baxter. She went to a rural school near Belmond until she was 10 years old when she was stricken with polio, then was tutored by her father for four years. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1949, Waldorf College in 1951 and received her BA in business economics from Drake University in Des Moines. On June 5, 1954, she married Donald Fraser in Holmes, they were later divorced. She was a member of the Belmond Methodist Church, Eastern Star Laura Chapter No.115, American Association of University, Charter member of National Association for Limited Education Dealers, Bradford Exchange, and the American Limited Edition Association.

She is survived by a son, Donald, of Dows; a granddaughter, Pvt. Kristen Renee Fraser of Schofield Barricks in Hawaii; and one grandson, Daniel Fraser of Dows. She was preceded in death by her parents; guardians, Evelyn Hanson and George Baxter; a sister, Florence Cockrum; a brother, Alvin Allen; and a son, Craig Fraser. Elledge Funeral Home of Dows was in charge of arrangements.
