August 4, 1912 - March 7, 2004

Edna M. Griffen, 91, of Iowa Falls died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 9, at the United Methodist Church in Alden. Reverend Rick Layman officiated.

Edna was born Aug. 4, 1912, to Eugene and Mary Kathryn (Crandall) Peterson. She was adopted by Warren and Amanda Collins following her mother's death. She attended country school in Vernon No. 7 in Wright County, graduating from Dows High School in 1930. Edna married Fred Griffen on July 14, 1935, and they farmed in the Dows and Alden area for many years. She was active in 4-H and attended the Popejoy Methodist Church, where she was active on many UMW offices. Edna was also active in the Farm Bureau in the Oakland and Franklin townships. She loved craft work, gardening, singing in the Farm Bureau Choir, traveling, and making/collecting dolls. Edna was honored as the Outstanding Senior Citizen in Wright County in 1994, for her volunteer work.

Survivors include two sons, Earl, and his wife Betty, of St. Paul, Minn.; and Faye, and wife Linda of Rio Rancho, N.M., 11 great-grandchildren and seven half-brothers and sisters. Edna was preceded in death her husband, parents, adopted parents; an infant son, two brothers, and a half-sister. Surls Funeral Home in Alden was in charge of the arrangements.
