Harold Dow, 88, of Dows, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, at 1:30 p. m. at the United Methodist Church in Dows, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Pastor Tony Hershey will officiate.

Harold was born Nov. 16, 1912, in Xenia, Ill, to Murray and Vida Bangs Dow. He received his education in rural Zenia and served in the United States Marines from 1939-46. He was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor and served in the Pacific during World War II. On March 25, 1943, he married Myrtle Wininger in Yuma, Ariz. After his discharge from service they moved to Dows and farmed until retiring in 1974. They retired to Caplinger Mills, Mo., where they did woodworking and crafts. They moved back to Dows this year and he entered USA Health Care Center in March.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, of Dows; two sons, Curtis and wife, Linda, of Dows, and Blake and wife, Marcia, of Pryor, Okla.; and four grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Skalla, of Waukegan, Ill.; and three brothers, Earl of Palatine, Ill., Edwin of Dows, and Russell of Iowa Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Duncan; and a sister, Helen Pearson. The Elledge Funeral Home of Dows, is in charge of arrangements.
