Virginia Myers, 84, of Rockwell, Iowa died Wednesday (April 4, 2007) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home in Rockwell. Virginia was born May 9, 1922, in Holmes, the daughter of Albert and Jennie (Larsen) Jergensen. She attended country school, graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1939 and attended normal training to become a teacher. Virginia taught for one year in a rural school in the Goldfield area. She married Boyd Myers March 29, 1941, in Missouri. Boyd and Virginia farmed in the Goldfield, Osage and Swaledale areas until retirement due to Boyd's health in 1989, after which they moved to Rockwell. Virginia loved reading, sewing, crafts and watching her ballgames. She was very active in the United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for countless years, and was a UMW and Circle member. She was an excellent mother and caring grandmother. She was devoted to her husband and family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 9, at the Rockwell United Methodist Church in Rockwell with the Rev. John Scherb officiating. Burial will be at the Rockwell Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Rockwell United Methodist Church and will continue one hour before services at the church.
Virginia is survived by her children, Sharon (Glenn "Mike") Eddy of Clear Lake, Susan (Laverne) Reimers of Osage, Donald Myers of Granville, Ill., and ex-wife, Carol Myers, of Rockwell, Jerry (Ronna) Myers of Garner, Dorothy "Dot" (David) Falasco of Colorado Springs, Colo., Debra (Kelly) Laudner of Rockwell, Wendy (Ted) Bonner of Swaledale; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Coltvet of Clarion and Phyllis Erdal of Fairfax, Minn.; brother, Harley (Jeannie) Jergensen, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law, Ida Jergensen, of Bricelyn, Minn.; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boyd; son, Jim; great-grandson, James; two sisters, Gertrude and Bette; and brother, Dean.
