December 24, 1995Lloyd Jurgens, 76, died Friday (Dec. 22, 1995) at Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Reformed Church, Sheffield, with the Rev. Melvin Voss officiating. Burial will be in Zion Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Tenold Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd Jurgens, the son of Toby and Ernstena (Koenen) Jurgens was born June 20, 1919 in Franklin County. He was united in marriage to Frieda Wiemann on Oct. 15, 1940. He farmed near Thornton from 1939 to 1963, and did carpenter work in the Belmond area from 1963 to 1966. He served the Indian Mission and Harmony Youth Home from 1966 to 1973, and in 1973 he started the Belmond Upholstery, continuing this work until his death on Friday (Dec. 23, 1995). Lloyd was a faithful member of the Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond, and held offices of Elder and Deacon, and was a Sunday school teacher and lay speaker. He enjoyed volunteer work in Belmond, Cook's Christian Theological School in Tempe, Ariz., and Winnebago Reformed Church Mission. Lloyd especially enjoyed his family, church, upholstery work and his many friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Frieda; daughter, Linda Sheehan and her husband, Nick of Belmond; sons, Lynn Jurgens and his wife, Becky of Forest City, and Dennis Jurgens and his wife, Jane of Winterset; grandchildren, Randy and Anita Jurgens, Lonnie Jurgens, Lori and Homero Zuniga, Carol Caunt, Tim Jurgens, Michael and Dani Jurgens, Douglas Jurgens, Chris, Matthew and Melissa Sheehan; great-grandchildren, Brandi, Brad, Jessica, Kelly, Kassidee, Duran, Nadine, Pernell Jr., and Elisa; brothers, Jerry and Paul Jurgens of Latimer, Calvin Jurgens of Thornton, David Jurgens of Marion; and a sister, Thelma Dannen of Latimer. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Beverly Chambers;grandchildren, Tammi Lynell and Todd David; great-grandson, Kodi Christian.
