Jerry E. Hopkey, 64, of Riviera Beach, Florida, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2002, at Riviera Beach. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., at the Tenold-Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the family being present from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Reverend Michael Druhl of the Belmond United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Jerry Hopkey, was born on October 25, 1938 in Belmond, the son of Edward L. and Jennie (Gealow) Hopkey. He attended the Belmond Schools. He served in the United States Navy. Throughout his life, he had been employed in various occupations, many of which involved automobiles. He had done surveying work for the Corp of Engineers on the Mississippi River, had driven semi tractors, had been employed with the city in Palm Beach County, worked for a dairy farm in Florida, and worked as a carnival employee. He liked fishing, including shark fishing and alligator hunting. He had lived in Florida for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his sister, Norma Jean (Duane) Thompson of Belmond; daughter, Debbie Hopkey of Casicana, Texas; son, Ronald Hopkey of Alden, Iowa; grandson, Billy Hopkey; granddaughter, Megan Hopkey; three nephews; a niece; two step-nephews; and two step-nieces.
