William Bartlett Queary was born March 16, 1844 at Decatur, Ill., and departed this life Nov. 2, 1930, at the home of his son E.R. Queary of Renwick, Iowa at the ripe old age of 86 years, 7 months, and 16 days. The deceased lived in Illinois until 1892 when he came to Renwick and made this his home the greather part of the time since that date. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Mr. Queary enlisted in the Company H 63, Illinois Regiment of volunteers and served until the end of the war. He wsa with Sherman on that memorable march to the sea. Soon after his return from the war, he was united in marriage to Annie E. Bruce who departed this life April 3, 1895. To this union eight children were born as follows: Edwin R. of Renwick, George A. who died in 1923, Mrs. Lucretia J. Rowley of Westbrook, MN., Mrs. Mary A. Beals of Arthur, Ill., Mrs. Ida M. Laubach of Colbert, WA, Mrs. Ella L. Rettig of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Mrs. Stella Everett of Sullivan, Ill. and Nina A. Anderson of Renwick, who together with 30 grandchildren, survive him. He united with the Christian church many years ago while living in Arthur, Ill., and through all these years he faithfully served his God and his Christ until called home to forever be with his Lord. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 4 under the direction of the pastor, Rev. J. Arthur Hurley, and the internment was made in Goldfield. Harvey McPeak, Post No. 289 of the American Legion had charge of the services at the cemetery. H.S. Rice, now the only surviving Civil War veteran in Renwick, attended the services.
