Agnes G. Roberts, 98, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 21, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond with the Rev. James Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery near Coulter. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.

Agnes, the daughter of C. L. and Beate Olson Kinseth, was born Aug. 15, 1909, near Bode, in Humboldt County. She grew up and attended school in Bode. After graduating from Bode High School in 1919, Agnes went to California and lived with relatives. She later returned to Iowa and worked for Andy Brodall at a restaurant in Latimer. It was there that she met Ralph Roberts. Agnes was united in marriage with Ralph Roberts on April 6, 1929, in Bode. The couple made their home in Goodell and later Belmond, where they owned and operated the Case Hotel and Yellow Front Restaurant. They then owned and operated the Duck Inn Café in Goodell. They retired from the hotel and restaurant business in 1972. After Ralph passed away in 1976, Agnes continued to live in her home in Belmond. She would later move into a condominium at the Belmond Apartments in the late '70s and entered the Belmond Health Care Center in 1991. Agnes is fondly remembered for her pie baking, having baked well over 5,000 pies. She loved to cook. Agnes was kind to everyone and had many friends. Agnes was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond for nearly 70 years.

Agnes is survived by two sisters-in-law, Loretta Rodemeyer of Pharr, Texas, and Mildred Oliver and her husband, Wayne, of Des Moines; brother-in-law, Milo Roberts and his wife, Sophie, of Belmond; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; three brothers; and eight sisters. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond
