Delores M. Johnson, 75, of Kanawha, passed away Thursday (Jan. 20, 2000) at the Kanawha Community Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Lutheran Church in Kanawha, with Pastor Keith Sievers officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home in Kanawha and one hour prior to services on Monday at the Church.
Delores was born on Oct. 19, 1924, in Dows, the daughter of Elmer and Florence Trowbridge Sturgeon. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1942. Delores was united in marriage to Gaylen D. Johnson on Nov. 6, 1943, in Belmond. They resided in Belmond until 1954, when they moved to Kanawha to farm. Delores worked at Winnebago Industries and then at Farmers State Bank until she retired in June of 1987. Her favorite hobbies were cooking and baking, along with bowling, playing cards and dancing. She also was an active member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church.
Delores is survived by her husband, Gaylen, of Kanawha; two daughters, Angela Strege and her husband, Kevin, of Bakersfield, Calif. and Andrea Mallen, of Mason City and her special friend, Denny Honsey, of Minneapolis, Minn.; one son, Todd Johnson, of Buffalo Center; one daugher-in-law, Sherry Johnson, of Kanawha; five grandchildren, Travis and his wife, Sue, of Grimes, Chad, of West Des Moines and his fiancee, Steph, of Belmond, Jade, of Clinton, Mitchell, of Buffalo Center and Jacey, of Britt; and one great-grandson, Drew; two sisters, Henrietta Jenison, of Belmond and June Deiser and her husband, George, of Owatonna, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Mabel Sturgeon, of Clarion; and many nieces and nephews. Delores was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Tony Johnson; and one greatgrandson, Jordan Chase Johnson; two brothers, Dale Sturgeon and Gene Sturgeon; three sisters, Elizabeth Langland, Lucille White and Marjorie Regal.
