Donald A. Friesleben, 72, of Belmond, died Saturday (Oct. 12, 1996) at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jim Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church. The family suggests memorials to the Donald A. Friesleben Memorial Fund.

Donald A. Friesleben was born on Friday, Aug. 8, 1924, in Alexander, to Christal and Emma (Ludtke) Friesleben. He was 2 years old when they moved to a farm east of Belmond. Don was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church. He attended country school and graduated from Belmond High School in 1942. Don was united in marriage to Wilma Johnson on Jan. 8, 1949, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Don drove school bus for several years, worked for the Andrew Funeral Home for a number of years and with the Tenold Funeral Home for 14 years. In 1958 Don was chosen by the Jaycees as "Belmond's Outstanding Young Farmer."
Don was a member of the Belmond Country Club, which he had served as a board member and president for a term. Don also was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving his church in many capacities, including the choir. He farmed all his life until he retired in 1992. He and Wilma purchased a home and moved to Belmond in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma, of Belmond; his sister, Marilyn Grube and her husband, Clair, of Edmonds, Wash.; one nephew, Marty Grube and his wife, Emma; and one grandniece, Megan Grube. Don was preceded in death by his parents.
