Donovan Louis Peil, 67, of Belmond, died on Saturday, November 12, 2005, at the Belmond Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with the Rev. Ray Salemink officiating. Burial was in the Alexander Cemetery.

Donovan Louis, son of Ben and Alice Peters Peil, was born on July 20, 1938, on a farm near Alexander. As a teenager he helped his father and mother on the farm. Don graduated from the Alexander High School in 1956. He attended Ellsworth College, graduating in 1958. Don joined the National Guard and worked at the Latimer Bank for one year before enlisting in the Army. He met his first wife, Nancy in Chicago where he was stationed. Don and Nancy married on December 30, 1960 in LaPorte County, Indiana. They had three children. The couple lived in Indiana for a few years, moving back to the family farm in 1966. Nancy died in 1984. Don married Judy Fjetland in 1985. They were divorced in 1996. Don remained on the farm until he moved to Belmond in 1997 for health reasons. Don enjoyed working on computers, watching war movies and gardening. His family was the most important part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife. Survivors include his daughter, Julie George (Bo) McBride of Athens, Alabama; twin sons, Scot (Jennifer) Peil of Ankeny and Darren (Ciana) Peil of Alexander; grandchildren, James, Delany, Robert and Grace; and friend, Judy Peil of Alexander.
