Doris A. Hill, 73, of Alexander, died on Saturday, December 17, 2005, at the Belmond Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 20, at the United Methodist Church in Alexander, with Pastor Tony Hershey officiating. Burial was in the Alexander Cemetery. Organist was Carol Richards and soloists were Marlo Westaby and Marvin Draper. Ushers were Dallas Card and Marvin Draper. Casket bearers were Ken Clark, David Hill, Mike Weitenhagen, Bob Kruger, Lowell Franzen and Vince McDermott. Honorary bearers were Charles Kruger, William Beenen, Fred Trager, Dallas Shear, and Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Kew.
Doris was born on April 2, 1932, the daughter of H.J. and Martha Schutt Mourlam of Woolstock. She attended country schools until the family moved to Belmond in 1947. She graduated from the Belmond High School in 1951. Doris married W. Harry Hill on June 24, 1951. Following his military service they returned to the Alexander area and farmed until his retirement in 1995. Doris enjoyed being a homemaker and a grandmother. She was active in community organizations and was a member of the Alexander Methodist Church, serving on many committees.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Raynard, Donald and Harvey; sisters, Gladys, Francis and Mayme; and grandson, Ben Perry. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Debra (Duane) Perry of Belmond, Suzanne (John) Messick of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Carla Roberts of Garner; son Craig (Deb) Hill of Alexander; grandchildren, Shawn (Michelle) Hill of Des Moines, Amanda (Dan) Teske of Iowa Falls, Emily (Rob) Lamfers-Hill of Belmond, Hannah Messick of Ardmore and Nicholas and Harrison Roberts of Garner; and great-grandchildren, Shayla and James Teske, Colin Hill and Andrew Lamfers-Hill; sisters, Irene Sarber and Jo Lowenberg, both of Mt. Vernon.
