Madonna Fae McNulty, 87, died on Saturday, December 3, 2005, at the Belmond Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, December 6, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father Chris Podhajsky officiating. Interment was in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery near Belmond. Assisting with the services were organist Maxine Whitty, cantor Cyndy McNulty, lector Jim Houser, eucharistic ministers Marcia McNulty, Monica Gribben and Maureen Dockstader, altar servers Tanner and Ryan Gribben, ushers Frank Quigley and Nancy Beenken and gift bearers were Donna's great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Padraic Rowe, Rory Rowe, Kelly Rowe and Jane Hausman. Casket bearers were Maureen Dockstader, Monica Gribben, Mitchell McNulty, Kate McNulty, Michael McNulty, Matthew McNulty, Megan Zwanziger and Lisa Rehwaldt-Alexander.

Madonna Fae Hofer, was born on September 18, 1918 in Ventura. Her family moved to California for two years, returned to the Ventura/Clear Lake area, and then moved to Goodell. Donna excelled in softball and academics and graduated with honors from the Goodell High School. She attended Mt. Mercy College, the University of Iowa, and completed her degree in English at Drake University. Donna married Gerald W. McNulty on May 6, 1939. They lived in Belmond before moving to their farm north of town. She taught school at St. John's in Clarion and later remedial reading in Belmond. Donna respected and loved animals and the seasons, laughed hard, worked hard, enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, and she loved her family. Donna was an active member of the DAR, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Elizabeth's Study Club, St. Francis Rosary Society and St. Francis Parish.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Nilla (Jasperson) Hofer; brother, Ronald Hofer; and an infant sister. She is survived by her husband; her children, Thomas (Diane) McNulty of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Mark (Marcia) McNulty of Clear Lake, Dennis of Belmond, Shannon McNulty of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Edward McNulty of Minneapolis and daughter-in-law, Cyndy McNulty of Belmond; grandchildren, Maureen (Scott) Dockstader, Michael (Lisa) McNulty, Monica (Jeffrey) Gribben, Matthew (Theresa) McNulty, Mitchell (Melissa) McNulty, Meagen (Adam) Zwanziger, Kate McNulty and Lisa (Jeremy) Rehwaldt-Alexander; and 13 great-grandchildren.
